TOPIC 1 – Education policies during emergency
Emergency situations may have the power to drive or delay change in public policies. On Topic 1 we are looking forward to welcome contributions covering discussions about the role of the state and its legitimacy on education modes of regulation, apparently strengthened by the current crisis. Understanding this complexity will require the capacity to capture features, some of them ambiguous, in hybrid social ecosystems where democratic participation and social cohesion policies intersect with the so called “urgent” technological renovation in the pos-pandemic “new normal”.
TOPIC 2 – Reconfiguration of educational organizations’ management
Educational organisations have recently assumed different configurations at micro, meso and macro levels. Several organisational scenarios can be anticipated: i) reinforcement of existing development models, by strengthening the school bureaucratic system or through the educational market; ii) development of “re-schooling” perspectives, in which the school emerges as a community driving force, boosting all kinds of network learning; iii) development of “de-schooling”, according to a diversity of formats, with the deconstruction of the current school model. Considering this variety of scenarios, we are excited to nurture a rich academic discussion around the organizational landscape for the 21st century school and its impacts on educational management.
TOPIC 3 – Shadow education scenarios
Shadow education or private supplementary tutoring is a widespread practice all over the world. There are common trends in the evolution of this phenomenon increased by globalization features. However, there are specific configurations and dynamics in different regions of the world. In this topic’s scope, we are keen to receive abstract submissions covering the following topics, amidst other possibilities: mapping private supplementary tutoring landscape; the impact of shadow education in students’ academic achievement; reshaping of the private supplementary tutoring market because of the pandemic emergency; implications of shadow education for policy-making; outlining drivers of demand and diversity of supply.
TOPIC 4 – Sustainability and change in research modes and agendas
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted significantly educational research. Because of the limitations related to collecting information in the field or the rise of new research designs and study topics, the educational research landscape is living under substantial turbulence. This pandemic created a crisis scenario that challenges the scientific research field to reshape research agendas and modes of inquiry. On Topic 4, we are keen to welcome papers giving a contribution to understand the influences of the emergency context in educational research, particularly in the field of educational policy and administration.
